Tim Mahoney: Take This Job and Shove It

This week, freshman Democrat Tim Mahoney, sang his version of the Johnny Paycheck classic, “Take this job and shove it,” while speaking with a Washington D.C. newspaper. “I think there was a concern that I wasn’t happy in Congress. Very candidly, this isn’t the greatest job I’ve had,” Mahoney complained when confronting questions about his “rocky start” and “shaky transition to life in Congress”.

“Public service is an honor, not a nuisance. If Mahoney lacks the stomach to serve, he should step aside” said Anthony Bonna, Deputy Campaign Manager of the Harrell Campaign. “Voters deserve a committed and motivated voice in Washington,” Bonna continued.

Although Mahoney insists that he will run for re-election, after today?s comments voters are justified in questioning whether he even deserves the job.

“Elected Officials are the employees and the voters, as Governor Crist likes to say, are the ‘boss’ and everyone knows that the employee who hates his job is always less productive,” Bonna explained.

During the last election, Mahoney portrayed himself as a fiscal conservative, campaigned on winning in Iraq, and promised to ?clean up the cronyism and corruption in Washington?. However, since arriving in Washington, the real Tim Mahoney has:

· Voted to raise taxes by $400 billion

· Voted for a bill that contained over $24 billion in pork barrel spending

· Voted for a date certain for retreat in Iraq

· Voted against reprimanding his fellow liberals Jack Murtha and William Jefferson for their ethics violations.

“It seems Tim Mahoney has failed on every significant issue for which he was elected. Despite his rhetoric, his votes and values do not represent the 16th district, it seems Tim Mahoney just isn’t up to the job.” continued Bonna.

Gayle Harrell is running for Congress because of her core beliefs and convictions that we need to defeat terrorism, secure the border, keep taxes low, reign in spending, and preserve the American family. While in Tallahassee, Harrell was the author of the Florida Seaport Security Act which became a model for protecting America’s ports against terrorist attacks. She voted to cut taxes by $12 billion, opposed what would have been the largest tax increase in Florida’s history, fought against giving illegal aliens welfare benefits, and received the Christian Coalition’s faith and family award for her 100% voting record.

Mahoney Promise on Ethics Reform as Empty as William Jefferson’s Freezer

Several months ago William Jefferson’s freezer was emptied of $90,000 in cash that the now indicted congressman allegedly took as a bribe from Nigerian officials. But it seems something else is emptier than Jefferson’s freezer and that’s Tim Mahoney’s promise on ethics reform.
During his last campaign, Jefferson’s friend and fellow liberal, Tim Mahoney campaigned on a platform to “clean up cronyism and corruption in Washington”. However, when Mahoney had the chance to take a stand against corruption, he chose to play partisan politics instead. Breaking his campaign promise, Mahoney turned a blind eye to Congressional corruption opting instead to reward Jefferson with a seat on the Homeland Security panel.
“Mahoney is dependent on the liberal special interests that fund his campaign. He has a 94% voting record with Nancy Pelosi and has shown a willingness to side with them even if it means breaking his promise to us,” explained Anthony Bonna, Deputy Campaign Manager of the Harrell campaign. “Mahoney turned his back on honesty and common sense.”
Two weeks ago, Mahoney again condoned unethical behavior when he voted against reprimanding Jack Murtha for violating ethics rules. Murtha was to be punished for misusing his power when he threatened to cut off project funding for two members of Congress who opposed him. “Earmark bribery is a serious ethics violation that should not be tolerated, but again Mahoney decided to bend the rules for his Democratic friend,” Bonna said.
“If Mahoney lacks the courage or willingness to fight unethical behavior and corruption, he should resign,” Bonna challenged.
