Sebring, FL- Today, Congressional candidate, Gayle Harrell (R- Stuart) released the first television advertisement in the race for Florida’s 16th Congressional District.
“Tim Mahoney has Nancy Pelosi and liberal Washington Special Interests telling his story, so we’re taking our case directly to the voters”, Harrell said, “Congressman Mahoney says he doesn’t like his job so we’re going to hand him his walking papers come November.”
Congressman Tim Mahoney voted for what would have been the largest tax increase in American history, supported a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq, earned a 100% rating from NARAL Pro-Choice America and attacked opponents of illegal immigration as ‘immoral’.
In comparison, as a State Representative, Gayle Harrell to pass Amendment 1 giving property tax relief to homeowners, voted to cut taxes by $20 billion dollars, authored key legislation to secure our seaports, received the Faith and Family Award from the Christian Coalition for her pro-life voting record, and led the fight to oppose giving welfare benefits to illegal immigrants.
The television spot, titled “Where I Stand” introduces Representative Harrell, her record, as well as her positions on the issues and can be viewed here. The ad begins by discussing Gayle’s support for the successful Amendment 1, which will cut property taxes, then continues with the importance of securing the border and solving illegal immigration, as well as her votes for abortion restrictions such as parental notification.
“Gayle Harrell is a proven conservative with a record that demonstrates she can and will cut taxes, secure our borders, and give needed relief to our economy,” said Harrell Campaign Chairman and Florida Senate President Ken Pruitt, “As voters get to know Gayle Harrell, they will know that her values are our values.”

REPRESENTATIVE GAYLE HARRELL CONGRATULATES VOTERS ON PASSING ONE
PORT ST. LUCIE, FL – State Representative Gayle Harrell (R-Port St. Lucie) congratulated her constituents this morning on passing amendment one. The amendment passed overwhelmingly, most importantly doubling the homestead exemption and making the save our homes cap on property portable. Harrell worked hard in the legislature to help pass the measure.
“Congratulations and thanks are definitely in order. The people of this district and all across Florida wanted relief and they showed it on Tuesday. To them I say thank you,” Representative Harrell stated.
She continued, “However, this is only a first step as we must remain vigilant in the face of increased government spending, especially on wasteful and unnecessary programs. I’m going to build on this victory and continue the fight to keep government accountable at every turn. This is only the first chapter in providing relief… I ask all Floridians to keep up the fight to fix Florida’s unfair and inequitable property tax system.”

Since today is the 35th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, I wanted to take a few moments to recall one of the reasons I support Gayle so strongly - Gayle’s pro-life record.
For eight years in Tallahassee, Gayle has worked to reduce abortions and defend human dignity.
Gayle:
- Co-sponsored legislation for and supported a state constitutional amendment for parental notification.
- Supported a 24-hour waiting period for abortions.
- Voted for legislation that would promote and inform women of their right to an ultrasound.
- Opposed human cloning
- Helped pass legislation to criminalize the willful killing of an unborn child.
Gayle even earned the Christian Coalition’s Faith and Family Award for a 100% voting record.
In contrast, our current Congressman is part of the problem, earning a 0% rating from the National Right to Life Committee. That includes votes to give federal funding to the nation’s largest abortion provider and to support human cloning.
I believe strongly and pray everyday that this nation will reach a point where we value each and every human life.Gayle’s work in Tallahassee has brought us closer to achieving that goal.

Gayle, Dr. Harrell, and I were in Highlands this morning for meetings with elected officials followed by a meet and greet at the well-known Dee’s restaurant in downtown Sebring. A special thanks goes out to Highlands County Republican Party Chairwoman Justine Devlin and Peg Shaw, the President of the First Republican Women’s Network who sent out e-mail invitations to our event.
At the meeting, we had time to chat with Peg Shaw who informed us that illegal immigration and McCain-Feingold were big issues for her. David and Tina Smothers, a young married couple, stopped by to learn more about Representative Harrell and our campaign. And long-time County Commissioner Guy Maxcy, who ran into us by chance in the restaurant, joined us for a sandwich. We are grateful for the many others that stopped by during the meet and greet.
Gayle, Dr. Harrell, and the entire campaign team look forward to spending a lot of time in Highlands County.
